Shirley Mae Beeghly passed away Saturday Sept. 12, 2009, after a brief illness.
The Guest Book is expired.
Shirley was born on Nov. 7, 1936, in Foster County, N.D., the oldest of four children. She grew up around New Rockford on the family farm. Her mother died in childbirth, and consequently she lived with her uncle and aunt in her younger years.
After her father, Phillip, remarried she went to live at home. Shirley was educated at home in the early years, and later went to school for two years in New Rockford.
She married Lawrence Beeghly on Feb. 1, 1954, and they had one son, Don, born Feb. 10, 1955.
Shirley loved to fish and was very competitive on fishing trips. Her favorite fish to catch was Northern Pike. She enjoyed fishing with family and was able to go to Fort Peck one last time this past spring. She also enjoyed boating for the purpose of fishing, camping, cooking huge family dinners and feeding the little songbirds that visited her yard. She gardened every year and canned what she grew.
Shirley is survived by her husband, Lawrence, and son, Don, of Manhattan. She is also survived by her sister, Linda, of Oklahoma; brother, Willard (Kay) of Idaho; sister, Dorothy of Kansas; numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and -nephews.
Her parents, Ida and Phillip, preceded her in death.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16, at Belgrade Baptist Church.
