Sophie Laine Baldwin, 9 months old, born Feb. 14, 2007, passed away at home in Bozeman on Nov. 26, 2007, as a result of Type I Spinal Muscular Atrophy.
Sophie was a constant joy to those who knew her, smiling until the very end and never showing a hint of fear even as her condition worsened. Although her life was short, Sophie managed to accomplish what many others never do -- she enjoyed life to the fullest and did not get discouraged.
She is survived by her parents, Robert and Deanna Baldwin; her sisters, BreeAnna Reihman and Emma Baldwin; her brother, Tyler Baldwin; her grandparents, David and Joan Droppers of Bozeman; her grandfather, Warren Baldwin, and his wife, Donna, of Tennessee; and her great-grandmother, Betty Rash of Bozeman. She is also survived by her uncles and aunts, Daniel and Kris Droppers of Seattle, Wash.; Daren Droppers of Seattle; Warren and Cheryl Baldwin of Ulysses, Kan.; Jeff and Carol Etheredge of Decatur, Ala.; and Jim and Gloria Baldwin of Terrell, Texas, and many cousins and other relatives.
Sophie's middle name was in honor of her grandmother, Elaine Marie Baldwin, who passed away several years ago. Although her grandmother never got to hold her in this life, they are together now.
On Nov. 28, the family held a private service to celebrate Sophie's life at Dokken-Nelson Funeral Service. Sophie's uncle, Minister Warren Baldwin, officiated at her service.
The family requests, in lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Sophie to the Bozeman Deaconess Hospice, 915 Highland Blvd., Bozeman, MT 59715.
Sophie will be missed.
