Valerie Glynn Brinkman, 79, of Billings, died on May 7, 2009, from complications of multiple sclerosis. She was born in San Francisco, Calif., on Oct. 4, 1929.

Her early years were spent in Harlowton. She graduated from Harlowton High School in 1947. Her family moved to Bozeman, and Valerie attended Montana State College (now MSU). She graduated with a degree in home economics in 1951.
Valerie worked for Shell Oil Company in Billings for several years before attending Eastern Montana College and back to Montana State College where she earned her teaching credentials. She taught in the Billings school system for many years.
She married Fred Brinkman in 1997. Valerie and Fred spent several happy years together before Fred died in 2007, from a rare and aggressive lung disease at 70 years of age.
Valerie was preceded in death by her parents, Atha Martin Glynn and Val Glynn.
She is survived by her brothers, Don (Margaret) of Billings and Martin (Vonnie) of Bozeman; niece, Lori (Dave) Williams; nephews, Ken (Kathleen) Glynn, Gary (Mary) Glynn, and Randy (Charlotte) Glynn; grand-nephews and nieces, Carly, Casey, Kirsty, Conner, Elliott, Kelsey, and Sophia.
Friends, family and former students were very important in her life, as was her membership in ChiOmega and PEO. She was also very active as a volunteer for hospice.
The family would like to thank the staff and management of West Park Village for their care during her final years. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation, or to a charity of one's choice.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 13, at First United Methodist Church, 2800 Fourth Ave North, Billings.
