Velma C. Brownson, 74, of Bozeman passed away Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2009. She was born on Dec. 10, 1934, in Wheatland, Wyo., the seventh child of Orland and Naomi (Fry) Lewis. She grew up in Wheatland and after graduating from high school moved to Bozeman to attend Montana State University and major in art.

On Sept. 9, 1961, she married Roger Brownson in Wheatland, Wyo., and together they had two sons. Velma enjoyed raising her two sons and partnering with Roger on their ranch in Madison County.
She was a professional artist and was a member of the Artist's Gallery in Bozeman. She was passionate about the mission work she did for Wycliffe Bible Translators and traveled to many different countries and assisted in translation work in many different languages.
Velma is survived by her husband of 48 years, Roger Brownson; her sons, Aaron Brownson of Bozeman, and Mark (Beth) Brownson of Shamokin, Pa.; sisters, Ethel (James) Scott of Portland, Ore., Jean Lewis of Georgetown, Colo., Betty (Bob) Smith of Mount Vernon, Wash.; and brother, Leslie (Elaine) Lewis of Kirk, Colo.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Edna Bishop, Ruth Staples, Mildred Garwood, Norma Dee Davis, Maxine Eddy; and brother, Russ Lewis.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, at Evangelical Free Church in Bozeman. Interment will follow at 1 p.m. in Pioneer Cemetery in Harrison, immediately followed by a reception at the Cardwell Community Church in Cardwell.
