Dr. Wallace (Wally) Eugene King, Doctor of Chiropractic Medicine, passed away February 5, 2015, in Manhattan, Mont. at the age of 91. He was born to Pauline and Clark King of Midwest, Wyo., August, 28 1923. The family later moved to Ronan, Mont. where his father ranched. Wallace served in the army and received two purple hearts. His first career after college was in industrial building, then he went to Palmer College for chiropractic medicine. Wallace married Ardith Olson from Crosby, N.D. and practiced medicine in Oakes, N.D. for five years. He later divorced and moved to Grand Forks where he had his chiropractic office for 47 years and married Carol Schable of Minto, N.D. They later divorced. He retired in November of 2011 and moved to Three Forks, Mont. in 2013.

Dr. King was past president of the North Dakota Chiropractic Association in 1982 and served on the North Dakota Board of Examiners for five years. He was responsible for getting the North Dakota insurance commission to accept medical payments for chiropractic services, which was the first state in history to do so. He is the author of five books, The King Concept; a new theory of chiropractic care, and had developed several medical devices and equipment for the treatment of chiropractic care and was instrumental in the development creating safer football helmets to guard against head concussions.

Wallace was a big University of North Dakota (UND) sports fan, hockey being his favorite, and he enjoyed fishing and golfing while being at his lake place near Bemidji, Minn. for the summer. He had a fondness for horseback riding, along with his amusement of driving fast and collecting speeding tickets.

Wallace is survived by his six children, Mark (Andrea) King, Three Forks, Mont.; Paula (Nick) Ray, Coeur d' Alene, Idaho; Eric King, Atlanta, Ga.; Pamela (Mike) King-McNair, Fargo, N.D.; Paul (Joanie) Schable, Bismarck, N.D.; Jim Schable and Anita Brekken, Grand Forks, N.D. Three siblings, Dr. Bill (Nina) King ,York, S.C.; Norma Lee Squim, Wash.; Shirley (King) Stall Spicer, Minn.

Grandchildren, Justin (Lisa) King, Bozeman, Mont.; Seth King, Belgrade, Mont.; Joel King (Malin Ogren), Stockholm, Sweden; Cassidy Underwood, Coeur d' Alene, Idaho; Nathaniel and Hilary King, Orlando, Florida; Emme and Austin Schmidt, Fargo, N.D.; Sam and Max Just, Lakeville, Minnesota; Kelsey (Schable) (Matt) Fern, Connor Schable, Bismarck, N.D.; and many nieces and nephews. Great-great-grandchildren, Arley and Jasper King, Everett Fern. He is preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Mary.

There will be a private family graveside service in Livingston, Mont., followed by a memorial service to be held later this summer.

In lieu of flowers, the family has established the Dr. Wallace E. King endowment at Palmer College to continue his research and gift scholarships in his name. Gifts can be made out to Palmer College of Chiropractic and sent to his trustee in care of Pamela King-McNair, 12 Broadway Suite #203, Fargo, N.D. 58102 or give to in his name.
