Warren Baxter "Buck" Jones, 88, a third-generation rancher of Billings, formerly of Harlowton, passed away with his family at his side at Riverstone Horizon Hospice Home in Billings on Sunday, Aug. 31, 2008. Buck was born Aug. 2, 1920, in Butte, the son of William E. Jones and Francis Marie Baxter.

Educated in Harlowton, Chicago and Milwaukee, Wis., Buck graduated from Dartmouth College, Hanover, N.H.
Buck and Mary "Scotty" Crawford Parsons were married June 12, 1943, in Duncan, Okla.
After service in World War II, Buck and Scotty returned to the family ranch, Twodot Land & Livestock Co. at Harlowton. The ranch celebrated its 100th year in 2008.
A licensed pilot, avid reader, and fine furniture maker among other things, Buck was ready to discuss politics, economics, bread-making, furniture-making and grandkids at the drop of a hat.
Buck served on several boards in his career, including Norwest Bank, Montana Power Co., Deaconess Hospital and the Federal Reserve in Helena and Minneapolis, Minn. Buck enjoyed his relationship with Montana State University as a member of the President's Advisory Council for several years and as the first full-time professor in the David B. Orser Distinguished Visiting Professorship in the College of Business.
Buck was very proud of the fact that five of his grandchildren and three of their spouses were members of the Bobcat track and field team over the last 10 years.
Buck is survived by his wife of 65 years, Scotty; daughter, Pam (Ed Hahn) of Hong Kong; son, Bob (Diane) of Billings and Harlowton; and son, Bill (Debbie) of Harlowton; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be held in Harlowton at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, at the Federated Church. Burial of ashes will be in the Harlowton Cemetery with military rites, followed by a reception.
