William P. "Bill" Cope, 83, of Bozeman, passed away July 2, 2014. He was born May 23, 1931 to Ed and Della Cope in Roberts, Idaho, the oldest of four children.

Bill graduated from Roberts High School in 1949 and attended the University of Idaho. He married his high school sweetheart, Peggy Ann Schmidt, on July 29, 1950. Bill became the patriarch of the family when he was 29 after his parents passed away. Bill and Peggy farmed and ranched in Monteview, Idaho where they raised their five children. In 1969 they became partners in the Bozeman Livestock Auction. Bill completed his career as a cattle buyer and was known for his honesty and integrity. Bill and Peggy spent their retirement years as snowbirds in Surprise, Arizona.

Bill was a pilot, team roper, golfer, trap shooter, racquetball player, skier and has one of the only pickle ball courts in Bozeman. The greatest legacy is his commitment, dedication and love for his family.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy; their five children and 10 grandchildren - Bob & LaDonna Cope of Colstrip (BJ & Bobby); Cheryl & Wes Jensen of Circle (Charity & Samuel); Buzz & Susan Cope of Amsterdam (Riley & Charley); Sue Ann & Wayne Tack of Helena (Jason, Jennee & Jesse) and Becky & Steve Baker of Bozeman (Eric Murphy): 14 great-grandchildren; his brother, Tike (Hazel); and sisters, Sharon Taylor and Linda Cope.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at Dokken-Nelson Sunset Chapel at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Spring Meadows Employee Fund, (please note Bill Cope Memorial), 3175 Graf, Bozeman, MT 59715.
