Winifred Triemstra, 85, of Grand Rapids, Mich., passed away peacefully on Sept. 22, 2008, after a sudden, brief illness. She was born in Chicago on July 29, 1923, to the Rev. Peter and Jennie (Telling) Van Dyk, who retired in Manhattan.

She loved reading, word games, and word and logic puzzles, and her lifelong interest in health and nutrition expressed itself through her cooking and caregiving. She retained an interest in current events and offered incisive analysis.

Her husband, John, preceded her in death in March 2008.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Herm DeHaan; grandsons and granddaughters, Michael, Andy and Jennifer (Hindenach), and Julie; a great-granddaughter, Madelynn, who exuded love and joy; and a daughter, Linda, all of the greater Grand Rapids area.

Other survivors are her brother and sister-in-law, Arnold and Elsie Van Dyk of Spokane, Wash.; sister-in-law, Evelyn Triemstra of Bozeman; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Wilbur and Alice Dyk of Amsterdam; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 to 6 p.m. at Pederson Funeral Home in Rockford, Mich. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, at the Holland Home Chapel, 1450 E. Fulton, Grand Rapids, Mich., with interment in Rockford Cemetery.
