Winona Ruth Vander Molen, 81, went to be with the Lord on Feb. 13, 2010, after a brief fight with cancer. She was born on Dec. 30, 1928, in Churchill to Nick and Alice (Hoogland) Kimm.
The Guest Book is expired.
After graduating from Gallatin County High School, she married her high school sweetheart, Harold Vander Molen, and they have lived in the Gallatin Valley for the past 61 years.
Winona's first love was her Lord and Savior; second, her husband and family; and then her supportive church/community family. She found purpose and contentment surrounded by her family and caring for them.
Winona was an avid seamstress, gardener and cook. She was noted for her pie crust with award-winning bakers requesting her pie crust secrets, and her family has not found any baker that can match the taste of her cinnamon rolls.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Winona is survived by her husband, Harold; children, Elaine Lizzotte, Carl (Jean) Vander Molen, Mary (Ken) Ledeboer, Marvin (Rita) Vander Molen, Bev (Jon) Mangerich, and Judy (Tom) Kingma; 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by siblings, Willemina VanEgmond, Audrey Flikkema, Ethel Bestabur, and Clarence Kimm.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 18, in Churchill Cemetery. Memorial services will follow at 11 a.m. at Bethel Christian Reformed Church. Visitation at Dokken-Nelson Funeral Service will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m.
Memorials may be made to hospice, or to the Churchill Retirement Home.
Arrangements are in the care of Dokken-Nelson Funeral; www.dokkennelson.com.
