Alice N. (Tycer) Haugland passed away of natural causes Jan. 31, 2014 at her home in the Pass Creek area. Alice was born May 29, 1924 in Bozeman, Montana to Ralph and Jessie (Flemming) Tycer, making her the fourth generation to live in the north end of the Gallatin Valley. Alice attended Pass Creek School and Belgrade High graduating in 1942.
On June 12, 1955 Alice married the love of her life Ray Haugland making that the fifth of 14 weddings to take place on the Accola (Haugland) ranch. Ray and Alice took over the Accola Ranch in 1957, together they raised beef cattle, hay and grain crops, for 55 years. In the 1950's she barrel raced across the state riding a beautiful Palomino named Honey. She was a true all American cowgirl sporting Wranglers until the day she passed.
Alice was known for her cooking, usually cooking enough to feed three times the amount of people expected. You never left hungry, and her friends and family would often eat a meal just to keep her satisfied and stop her from worrying if "you had enough to eat?"
Alice's love of nature was known by all, she could name almost every flower or bird that she laid eyes on. Her yard was her pride and joy and her green thumb was rarely rivaled. She loved all things beautiful, taking pictures to capture the moment ranging from friendly birds to churches in Norway. Her overwhelming positive outlook on life and seeing the good in every situation will be missed by all, she was a ray of sunshine stealing a piece of everyone's heart she ever met.
She was survived by her sons, Darrell (Jackie) and Bruce; grandchildren, Justin, Jenny, Tycer, Dillan, and Abby, all of the Gallatin Valley; sister, Donna Delp (Ballantine); brother-in-law, Ed (Betty) of Oregon; and sister-in-law, Arlene Haugland of Gallatin Valley.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 57 years Ray Haugland.
The service will be held Wednesday February 5th, 2014 at 2pm at Grace Bible Church, with a reception following at the Pass Creek Community Center.
