Shirley Sue (Bowles) Sales went to be with her loving Savior, April 7, 2014, after a brief, undiagnosed illness, surrounded by her family. Throughout her illness and passing, Shirley radiated grace, kept a smile on her face and a twinkle in her eye. She was a beloved wife, mother, sister, mother-in-law, grandma, GiGi (great-grandma) aunt and friend.

Born in North Kansas City, Mo., on Jan. 2, 1935, she completed her primary and high school education in North Kansas City and attended Central Missouri State Teachers College. Throughout her life, she remained close to her Kansas City "Dirty Dozen" friends.

While visiting her sister, she found two reasons to make Bozeman her home. One, she was offered a job as Deputy Clerk of the Gallatin County Court and two, she found the love of her life, Walter. They were married June 3, 1956, at Hope Lutheran Church, moving two years later to Clarinda, Iowa, with their first born, Stacy.

Ten years in Iowa blessed them with four more children and many friendships. In 1968, Shirley and her family returned to Bozeman where her life continued to be devoted to her family, friends and her community. Shirley owned The Crossroads, became involved with MADGALLS, Gallatin County Republican Women's Club, Riverside Country Club and was on several committees at Hope Lutheran Church. In 1978, she became a member of Chapter F, PEO. Shirley loved each of her fellow PEO sisters and worked tirelessly raising funds for women's education, making many lifelong relationships along the way.

Shirley's interests included travel, golf, spending time in the yard and skiing (until breaking both of her legs). Her true passion was entertaining. She loved nothing more than spending time with her family and planning unforgettable family vacations. Time spent with her friends, whether a small bridge game for four, dinner for 20 or a full on party of 100, brought her such joy. She never tired of setting a perfect table.

Her father, mother, newborn son and brother preceded her in death. Her survivors include her husband of 57 years, Walter R.; and their children, Stacy (Scott) Springer and son, Kyle; Vicki (Dennis) Olson and son, Dennis (Megan); Walter (LaRae), and their children, Melissa (Travis), great-grandchildren, Caden and Abby, Walter (Lisa), Conni (John); Sabrina (Andrew) Kennedy; Heidi (Rick) Braaksma, and their children, Justine (Ryan), great-grandchild, Ezra, Rob and Darren; her sister, Bonnie (Tom) Wetherell; sisters-in-law, Jeanie Bowles and Bobbie Bowles; and nieces and nephews.

The Sales family is thankful for the compassionate, expert care provided to Shirley by Rocky Mountain Hospice and their supportive, thoughtful guidance provided to her family. Mom's loving PEO sisters provided daily meals that not only feed us but warmed our hearts with love for our family. In addition, the family is grateful for the generous support they received from everyone at Aspen Pointe, the employees and residents.

Memorials may be sent to the Cancer Support Community, 102 S. 11th Ave., Bozeman, MT 59715, Gallatin County Love INC, P.O. Box 7117, Bozeman, MT 59771, or Gallatin Historical Society, 317 W. Main St., Bozeman, MT 59715.

Shirley Sue is at the feet of Jesus now, her journey as graceful as her life.
