A special light went out for us all in the early afternoon hours of August 27. Mary Catherine Driscoll passed away in Bozeman where she resided with her husband Bob and sons Eddie and Mark in a beautiful home southwest of town overlooking the Hyalites and the Madison Range. She was 79.

Mary Driscoll was many things. She was devoted to her family and a wonderful mother and grandmother. She loved being an Irish Catholic girl and was very happy being able to live in Butte for over 73 years and was a part of many activities. She participated in watching her children, nieces, and nephews play sports for both Butte High and Butte Central and she enjoyed being very active in her Catholic faith at the Immaculate Conception Parish as a Eucharistic minister.

Mary Driscoll was born October 19, 1931, the ninth of the 10 children born to William and Natalie Silver.
She attended St. Joseph's grade school and graduated from Butte Central High School in 1949. She worked many years in her younger career as a bookkeeper for both the National Cash Register and for Dr. Joseph Gilboy.

Mary was a true, faithful, and loyal fan of Notre Dame football. Win, lose or draw, she proudly wore her blue and gold and considered herself lucky to have enjoyed many trips to watch them play with her sister Bernice and husband Bob and oldest son Michael who is currently a professor in theology at the University of Notre Dame.

She married Robert S. Driscoll in 1950 in St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Butte. They both fulfilled their dreams of going to Rome for nearly six weeks in 1974 to participate in the deaconate ordination of their oldest son Rev. Michael Driscoll.

Mary was preceded in death by her father, William; and mother, Natalie. She was also preceded in death by her sisters Jean and Margaret, and brothers, Chuck, Bill, and Ray as well as her numerous brothers and sisters in law.

She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Bob Driscoll and their five children, Michael Driscoll, Sherrie Driscoll (Gregier), Mark Driscoll, Eddie Driscoll, and Joey Driscoll as well as her daughters and son-in-law Dan Gregier, Christy Driscoll, Iris Driscoll, and Patti Driscoll.

She is survived by her beloved siblings, sisters, Bernice Merritt, Agnes Mediate, Dolores Barsanti, and Dorothy Brand. She is also survived by her sisters and brother-in-law, Noralee Driscoll and Jan and Dan Driscoll.

She is also survived by the lights of her life, her 12 grandchildren, Jeremy Driscoll and Kote Driscoll (Kirkcaldie), Eryn Gregier McElroy, Andrea Gregier, Nathan Gregier, and Joel Gregier, Daniel Driscoll, Elisabeth Driscoll, David Driscoll, and Nathaniel Driscoll, and Katie Driscoll and Matthew Driscoll. Mary is also survived by several great-grandchildren, Kylie, Charlie, JC, Kole, Joel, Michael, and Isaiah.

Coming from a family of 10 children yields many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Between the Silver and Driscoll families, family reunions could be held at the Butte Civic Center and some family would still be waiting to get inside. Along with her immediate and extended family, she is survived by numerous friends who will truly miss Mary.

Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Wednesday August 31, 2011 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Visitation will be held on Tuesday August 30 in St. Patrick's Catholic Church starting at 5 p.m. followed by the vigil at 7 p.m. Donations can be made to Our Lady of the Rockies or to the Butte Central Maroon Athletics.
