I am sorry to hear about the loss of Dan. I didn't know him personally, but it is apparent that he was much loved and respected by his family and MSU.

Canoe on his car, hunting dogs rushing back from afar to his whistle, we and our children will remember his quiet but warm welcome to Montana summer.

Dan was my mentor. He was one of the brightest people I've ever met. His talent and intelligence will be missed by many.

I am heart sick for the Goodman family and friends. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. May you find peace. Peggy O'Neil

Dan was the brightest person I've ever met, but also the wisest. While I'll remember the Bayesian statistics and decision theory he taught me, probably the thing I'll remember the most is his advice to, "Suffer fools gladly." That advice has served me better than any in the academic and agency worlds. May you rest in peace. You will be missed.

Dan could see farther than the rest of us.

I am saddened by the news of Dan's passing but am grateful for the many memories I have of him. As his violin teacher for many years, I was privileged to get to know a side of Dan that not many people were able to see. I remember our lessons fondly, some with Diane at the piano, and I feel very fortunate to have gotten to know Dan through music. Rest in peace (but don't forget to play your scales every day!).

To paraphrase Dan, "As you might well imagine, this is a sad time for statisticians". Not to mention the rest of us!

That's a great picture; that's the expression he'd get when he was just about to tell me another story about some bureaucratic antiscientific madness he'd just run into. Dan set me firmly on the path to becoming a scientist. It was great to see him again when he started working in Alaska these past few years.

Goodman was not hard to find!
His door was open to all, students, staff and faculty alike. Admired by many, he was one of my favorite people at MSU when I worked there. His passing leaves a void in many lives. What a good soul. Rest in peace.
