The seventh of eight children, she was born Dec. 17, 1919, near Englevale, N.D., at the farmstead home of her parents, Philip and Mary (Stroh) Dick.
Ruth attended Alleghany #2 elementary (township country school), Englevale High School, and Valley City State Teachers' College in North Dakota, where she obtained a Teaching Certificate. Subsequently, she taught elementary education at public schools in Enderlin and Kulm, N.D., Scobey, Mont., and Burbank, Calif.
During World War II, Ruth married Carl Randolph Haun at the Army Air Field at Great Bed, Kan., where Carl was training with his B-29 bomber crew. After the war they moved to Los Angeles, where Ruth attended Long Beach State University and obtained her B.A. degree.
About 1954, they moved to Bozeman, where Ruth taught first grade for 21 years in the public system (Irving and Longfellow schools).
Carl passed away in 1996, after which time Ruth sold their cozy farmstead along the Gallatin River and has since resided at either Aspen Pointe (Hillcrest and Birchwood) or Highgate Senior Living in Bozeman.
Other than devoting time to her beloved husband, Carl, Ruth had many interests including gardening, fishing, reading, traveling and visiting with family and friends. She was involved in several community activities and benevolent organizations such as American Legion and VFW auxiliaries, Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem, Daughters of the Nile, Professional Education Organization (P.E.O.) and Delta Kappa Gamma Society International.
Ruth is survived by one sister, Mrs. Richard (Marian) Sibley of Fargo, N.D.; and one brother, George Dick (Joyce) of Lisbon, N.D. Also Ruth has numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and former students who loved her and who always looked forward to seeing her and spending time with her.
Her friendly, welcoming, cheerful attitude, her engaging laughter, and her beautiful smiling face will be dearly missed by us all.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Philip and Mary; two sisters, Mrs. Burnel (Dorthea) McDaniel and Mrs. Nichols (Emma) Kenyon; and three brothers, William (Blanche), Lawrence (Ruby) and Elmer (Melissa) Dick.
