Steven James Rees lost his courageous battle with cancer on Oct. 19, 2013. Steve was born July 28, 1942 in Piqua, Ohio to Jeanette Rees and the late Col. James B. Rees.He is survived by his wife, Winkie; Sons Steven J. Rees Jr. (Gail), G. Gordon Rees, Nicholas C. Rees, daughter Ellen S. Ronnlof (Joseph); Step-children John S. Jackson (Lisa), Carrie E. Flamer (Jeffery); Sisters Susan R. Krogmann, Sara L. Bittle (Terry); 12 grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Steve graduated from Wakefield High School in Arlington, VA, attended The University of Hawaii and graduated from The University of Albuquerque in New Mexico. He traveled the world first with his father's military career and then with his own. Steve served with the U.S. Army
Special Forces, serving twice in Vietnam earning 2 Purple Heart
medals and a Bronze Star
. After retirement, Steve entered the world of banking, but his true passion was serving with the Boy Scouts. He exemplified the ideals of scouting and was dedicated to sharing those ideals with the youth of Manatee County. He was a talented instructor and was always willing to share his knowledge with other scouters. Steve received many awards from the Scouts including the Silver Beaver Award. Steve was a true Christian and lived by his beliefs. His dedication touched many lives and he will be greatly missed. Memorial service will be held at Camp Flying Eagle Scout Camp 16009 Upper Manatee River Rd. Bradenton, Fl. on Wednesday Oct. 30,2013 at 5:00 p.m. Condolences can be e-mailed to: email@example.com
