George C. Barnes passed away after a 6-year battle with Alzheimer's disease on August 11, 2014 at Freedom Village in Bradenton. He was born in Tiffin, Ohio on August 8, 1925 to Walter and Evelyn (Scott) Barnes. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served during World War II then 2 years with the U.S. Merchant Marines. George married Margaret "Peggy" (Smith) and they spent 50 wonderful years together. They moved to Bradenton in 1969. George worked for 15 years at Anheuser Busch Co., retiring in 1988. After retirement, he worked as a security guard at Fairway Bay on Longboat Key for 20 years until Peggy's death in September 2008. George is predeceased by his parents, his wife, and his two brothers, Harold and John. He is survived by his only son, Scott (Michelle) Barnes; two granddaughters, Brittany and Christa; and great-granddaughter, Camille VanderMolen; all of Bradenton. There will be no local service. A memorial service will be held at 11am on August 23, 2014 at Engle-Shook Funeral Home & Crematory in Tiffin with George's brother-in-law, Deacon John Walter, officiating.
