Grover E. "Gene" Edwards, 89, of Aurora passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on July 25, 2013 after a brief illness. He was born on February 15, 1924 in Aurora, IL. He graduated from East High before enlisting with the United States Navy. In 1947 he married the love of his life Evelyn M. Benter. Gene was a graduate of the University of Denver where he earned a BA in accounting. He and Evelyn worked for Atomic Energy Commission in Los Alamos, NM before returning to Aurora, IL. During his years as an accountant Gene also worked for Barber Greene and Continental Bank in the real estate division. Gene was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Aurora and Hope Lutheran Church in Bradenton, FL. He was a member of University of Denver Alumni, Accountant Associates, The Optimist Club and the VFW. Gene is survived by his 2 daughters Linda (Patrick) Walker and Carol Haff, his 3 grandchildren Timothy Walker, Daniel (Amber) Walker, and Pamela Haff, great-granddaughter baby girl Walker who is due in September. He is also survived by his brother Robert ( Doris) Edwards and his family, his brother-in-law George (Doris) Benter and his family . He is preceded in death by his wife of 62 years Evelyn, his parents Grover and Nita Edwards and a brother William in infancy. The family will be receiving guests on Tuesday July 30, 2013 from 10:00 am until the time of service at 11:00 am at Our Savior Lutheran Church 420 W. Downer Place, Aurora, IL. Interment will follow at Lincoln Memorial Park, Aurora, IL. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Our Savior Lutheran Church, Aurora, IL, Hope Lutheran Church 4635 26th Street West, Bradenton, FL or Guiding Light Hospice 2285 US Route 52 P.O. Box 124 Serena, IL 60549.
