Robert E. Blair, 84; a longtime resident of Palmetto, passed from this life on July 27, 2013, under the compassionate care of Tidewell Hospice. He was a proud veteran of the Korean war, serving in the US Army. He earned several medals for valor, including the Purple Heart. After the war, being a patient at Walter Reed hospital, he met the love of his life, Eunice, a nurse caring for him . It was love at first sight for both of them. He called her his "Rezin" and they were inseparable. Her death in 2009 broke his heart but not his spirit. His colorful life ranged from being a tavern owner in Chicago to a US Marshal in Nome Alaska and security officer on the Skyway bridge. He was a giant of a man with a gentle generous heart. Robert will be forever remembered and greatly missed by his surviving family members, several veteran buddies and a circle of caring people privileged to call him friend. Intermnent of Robert's ashes beside His wife, will take place at Sarasota National Cemetery on August 30, at 10:00 am; with Chaplain Todd Morgan of Tidewell Hospice officiating.
