69, of Palmetto, FL, passed peacefully on January 13th surrounded by his family. He was born in Effingham, IL and served in the Navy for 4 years. Ernest is survived by his wife of 49 years, Barbara Jean, his sons Ernest F. Gilbert III (Jessica) and Eric Francis Gilbert (Tina), and his grandchildren Sarah Marie, Carissa Joy, Meghan Luella, Natalie Belle, Erin Kathryn, Eli Francis, Evan Wesley, Ethan Randall, and Jarrod Allen. Ernest was a loving father, husband, grandfather and friend. Ernest enjoyed fishing, evangelism, traveling and sharing his faith stories with the many people he met along the way. His passion for ministry and love for helping others truly reflected through his work with the girls at SOLVE where he volunteered as a mentor and teacher. A memorial service will be held at Church on the Rock in Palmetto on Saturday, January 16th at 10am. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution to SOLVE Homes at solvehomes.org in memory of Mr. Gilbert.
