Lydia E. Scarola

Obituary
  • "My heart goes out to the family during this most difficult..."

passed away peacefully with her family by her side on August 14, 2016 at the age of 88 years. She was born on July 12, 1928, the daughter of H.J.(Jack) and Lydia Dein of Yonkers, NY. While working as a secretary, she met the love of her life, John Scarola, on a blind date in 1949. They were married in June of 1950, having their first child, Douglas, in April the following year and their second child, Doreen, (Garrido) in May of 1956. Lydia devoted her life to being a full time mother and wife with her business career in the form of involvement in her father's nursery business where she was responsible for the bookkeeping and management of the business when her father was away. When the children married and the business was sold, Lydia spent her time utilizing the tremendous talent she had knitting and crocheting for her friends and family. Her abilities were not to be matched by anyone! In their later years, she and John retired and moved to Bradenton, FL. As retirees, they enjoyed the life of traveling, visiting children and grandchildren with very active lives in the Elks Lodge of Bradenton. There, Lydia was a well-respected member of the Elkettes, even moving to the rank of "Sergeant at Arms" for the group. John and Lydia were happily married for 66 years. Lydia is survived by her husband, John; son, Douglas Scarola; daughter, Doreen Garrido; 5 grandchildren, Chenell, Kristine, Diana, Dominic and Michael and 5 great-grandchildren. She also left behind a daughter-in-law, Judith Giraulo and son-in-law, Marc Levin. A Funeral Mass is planned 9 AM Monday, August 22, 2016 at Ss. Peter & Paul the Apostles Catholic Church. Brown & Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory 43rd Street Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Condolences may be made to www.brownandsonsfuneral.com
