Portia Beal Coury, 89 years of age, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at Serenity Gardens in Bradenton, Florida. Her loving husband Richard Coury, was at her side as she ended her brave 3 1/2 year battle with Alzheimer's Disease. Portia was born on July 27, 1926 in Lenawee County Michigan to Porter and Mae(Stephens) Beal. She attended Siena Heights college in Adrian, Michigan. She fell in love with Richard Abraham Coury while working together at the A&P grocery store in Adrian. They were married on August 19, 1950 in Detroit Michigan. Portia was an Executive Secretary at Genera lMotors. She and Richard raised their 6 children in Michigan before relocating to Bradenton, Florida in 1995.Portia is survived by her husband of 65 years, Richard (Dick). Her children; Michael (Carol) Coury of Royal Oak, Michigan; Angela (Mick) Blunden of Farmington Hills, Michigan; CJ (Mardi) Coury of Anna Maria Island, Florida; Richard Coury of Sarasota, Florida; Regina (Ron) Bruttell of Bradenton, Florida and Gloria Esch of Warwick, New York. 22 Grandchildren and 19 Great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, Granddaughter Jessica Marie Coury and Great Granddaughter, Audrey Coury.Portia was an active member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Bradenton Florida. She was president of the St. Vincent DePaul Society for 12 years. She also was a Hospice volunteer for 4 years. Serving and ministering to others was a calling she followed with grace and beauty.A Memorial mass was held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, presided by Fr. Tom Zalewski, Pastor, on December 29, 2015 at 10:00 am. Interment will be at The Memorial Garden at St. Joseph's Catholic Church at a date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested in Portia's name to: Tidewell Hospice of Bradenton, Florida; Serenity Gardens of Bradenton, Florida; St. Joseph's Catholic Church 3100 26th Street West Bradenton, Florida or The of Bradenton, Florida.
