Dr. Andrew Moore, 87, went to his Heavenly Home on April 27, 2014 due to pneumonia complications. He was surrounded by his loving family at Tidewell Hospice House Ellenton, FL. He was born January 20, 1927 in Floyd County Kentucky to R.E. and Ethel Moore. Known as Andy, he grew up in Kentucky and served in the United States Navy during WW II. He graduated from the University of Louisville School of Dentistry in 1954. While in dental school he met the love of his life, Eleanor Arbutus Blackburn, whom he lovingly called "Boo" and "my best friend", They were married for 60 years on July 3, 1953. Upon completion of dental school Andy was commissioned a dental officer in the United States Air Force and retired a Full Colonel. Dr. Morre practiced dentistry in Ashland, Kentucky for 37 years, ten of which were with his Stuart. He served as a Dental Examiner for the Southeast US Regional State Board of Dentistry and and received his Fellowship and Mastership in the Academy of General Dentistry. He was a Life Member of the American & Kentucky Dental association and served as an officer or board member of many other prestigious dental organizations. In 1975, he was awarded the Air Force Medal of Meritorious Service from the Secretary of State, distinguishing him as Dental Surgeon of his unit. Before moving to Florida and while living at Atlantic Beach, NC, Dr. Moore was an active member of Bogue Banks Baptist Church. His hobbies were carving shore birds and creating gold jewelry for "Boo" He felt his greatest commission and accomplishments were serving on foreign mission fields conducting dental clinics with Boo and RN, as his assistant. He loved the Lord as well as his dental profession and felt the need to be in Christian service using his God-given talent and ability. He and Boo made many trips to provide dental services to underprivileged people in the Yucatan and other Islands. Several times his children, Andreah and Stuart, accompanied them. Andy was very much loved and will be remembered for his genteel kindness and loving spirit toward family and friends. He always had a smile on his face for everyone in his presence. For the past ten years he was a member of the First Baptist Church Palmetto, and the Fellowship Sunday School Class. Dr. Moore was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Tommy Moore, and a sister, Mabel Butler, both of Ashland, Kentucky. Surviving in addition to his wife and children, Andreah (Steve) Wellman and Stuart (Lori) and four grandchildren whom he loved dearly, Heather (Seth) Kardos, Chris Wellman, Brittany "Nikki" Moore and Amy (Eric) Robinette.. Other survivors are a brother, Ernest (Lorelle) Moore, Houston Texas, sisters-in-law, JoAnn Moore, Charlene (Walt) Jones, Joan (Dan) Scalf, Ethel Stollings, and a brother-in-law, Buford (Lil) Blackburn, all from Kentucky. A life Service Celebration in memory of Dr. Moore will be conducted at First Baptist Church., Palmetto FL, officiated by the pastor, Dr Phillp Hamm. Visitation will begin at the church at 10:00am Wednesday April 30,2014 follow by the Service at 11:00am. Full military rites will be presented during the interment at Sarasota National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dr. Stuart Moore, Steve Wellman, Chris Wellman, Walt Jones, Dan Scalf and Carl Lorick. In lieu of flowers, memorials be donated to Missions at First Baptist Church, 1020 Fourth St. West, Palmetto, Florida 34221 or Tidewell Hospice House, 4151 37th East St., Palmetto, FL 34221.
