Victor H. Peterson, 92, of Lantz Corners, formerly of Kushequa, passed away at home unexpectedly Saturday (Jan. 26, 2013).
He was born May 14, 1920, in Bradford, the son of the late Ivan and Beda Samuelson Peterson. On Aug. 16, 1947, he married Joyce V. Martinson in the Kushequa Union Church.
Victor enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps on June 29, 1940. He was with the 44th Pursuit Squadron at Bellows Field, Hawaii on Dec. 7, 1941, during the attack of Pearl Harbor. He was honorably discharged in September 1945.
He was a member of the Mount Jewett American Legion, VFW and the PA and National Associations of Survivors of Pearl Harbor. He actively served on funeral detail.
Victor worked for South Penn Oil Co. and retired from Quaker State Oil Refinery.
He was a Hamlin Township school director on the Smethport Area School Board for eight years and a forest fire warden for 35 years.
He was active with the Mount Jewett Boy Scout Troop 410 for more than 65 years, serving as scout master for 15 years, helping put up flags on holidays for more than 50 years and also serving as a committee person. He also served on the McKean County Solid Waste Authority for 13 years.
He was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Mount Jewett, where he taught Sunday School and served on church council. He also was a member of the Lutheran Brotherhood.
Victor is survived by his wife of 65 years, Joyce; three daughters, Susan (Gary) DeVore, Savannah, Ill., Sonja (Larry) Geer of Kane and Victoria (Aaron) Hill of Madison, Ohio; one brother, Allen (Diane) of Aliquippa; seven grandchildren, Stephanie (Kevin) Kost, Craig (Grazyna) Geer, Ryan (Kira) Geer, David (Lisa) Geer, Erin DeVore and Shirley and Daniel Hill; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Donald Craig; and three brothers, Donald, Paul and Kenneth.
The family will be receiving friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Cummings Funeral Home in Mount Jewett. Friends may also attend a funeral service at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Mount Jewett at 1 p.m. Wednesday.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials, if desired, be made to St. Matthew's Lutheran Church; or Boy Scout Troop 410.

For a very short time Victor and I would talk about the small towns in the area he grew up in and helped me with gathering the information I need to write my book. I love this man and his most charming wife Joyce. GOD Bless both of you my friends.
