KANE - Katharine "Kay" Ellen Bush, 80, of 89 School St., passed away Saturday (Sept. 14, 2013) at her residence.
Born Feb. 19, 1933, in Wilcox, she was a daughter of the late George and Thora Amend Lehman. In 1953, in Kane, she married Chester "Chet" N. Bush, who preceded her in death.
Kay, who graduated first in her class at Wilcox High School, was the owner and operator of Edgewood Herbs in East Kane for the past 28 years. She loved her gardens and was one of the most knowledgeable people in the area of plants and their different nutritional and medicinal uses. She enjoyed sharing her gardens with everyone who crossed her path and took the time to explain the different plants to her visitors. Her business card reads "Purveyor of fine herbs and friends."
She was a member of the Herb Society of America and the Herb Society of Great Britain. She was a member and past president of the Kane Garden Club and also belonged to the former Business and Professional Women.
Surviving are a daughter, Deborah Bush of Kane; two sisters, Lynn Paup of Florida and Louise Lehman of Wilcox; a brother, Jon Lehman of Wilcox; a niece, Stina Gibson of Kane; and other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents; and a sister, Karen Jones.
Friends and family are invited to attend a Celebration of Kay's Life at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Cummings Funeral Home Inc.
Memorial donations may be made to the Friends' Memorial Library, 230 Chase St., Kane, PA 16735; or the McKean County SPCA, 80 Glenwood Ave., Bradford, PA 16701.
