KANE - Mary J. Bires, 87, of Ludlow, passed on at Kane Community Hospital on Friday (Feb. 28, 2014) after an extended illness.
She was born April 13, 1926, in Lamont, the daughter of the late Alois and Mary Prokop. Her childhood was spent in James City.
She was a graduate of Kane Area High School and had been employed by Holgate Brothers in Kane.
In 1950, she married John P. Bires in Kane. She was a faithful member of St. Callistus Catholic Church.
Surviving relatives include a son, Jonathan Bires of Ludlow; a sister, Ann Lester of Sheffield; and a brother Alois (Jane) Prokop of Salisbury, Conn. She also leaves behind several nieces, nephews and cousins as well as a large number of friends and her pet cat, Happy.

Mary was noted as a kind, cheerful and generous person who helped and comforted many people. Her concern and care for others was greatly admired by all who knew her. To meet her was to instantly become a friend.
