Nearing, Charles  
KANE - Charles "Huxie" W. Nearing, 77, of Burning Well Road, Wilcox, passed away Saturday (Dec. 20, 2014) at Penn Highlands DuBois. Born Aug. 5, 1937, in Wilcox, he was a son of the late Linus and Margaret Paulina Nearing. "Huxie" served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Veterans' Memorial Club in Mount Jewett and the Wilcox Sportsman's Club. Prior to retirement, he was employed as the dog catcher for Elk County. Surviving are three sisters, Sharon Nearing, Carol (James) Wismar and Pat Stauffer, all of Wilcox; three brothers, Linus Nearing of Lake City and James (Betty) Nearing and Raymond Nearing of Wilcox; his long-time companion, Nora Buzard of Wilcox; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Wilcox on Monday, Dec. 29, 2014, from 9 to 10:30 a.m., at which time a Memorial Mass will be celebrated with the Rev. David Wilson, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Wilcox Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice. The Cummings Funeral Home Inc. is in charge of arrangements. Norton, Nadine  
SMETHPORT - Nadine Jean Norton, 80, of Smethport, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday (Dec. 10, 2014), while living as a resident at Lakeview Senior Care & Living Center, Smethport. She was born Sept. 13, 1934 in Olean, N.Y., a daughter of Carl and Margaret Howard Gardner. On July 6, 1973, in the West Branch United Methodist Church of Bradford, she married Charles Boyd Norton, who died Jan. 5, 1994. Mrs. Norton was a graduate of Bradford High School and was a homemaker, tending to the needs of her family. She was a member of the Rixford Evangelical Church, where she taught Sunday School and played the organ and piano. She later became a member of the East Smethport United Christian Church, where she was a former member of the Mission Society and Missions Committee. She is survived by one daughter, Tammy L. (Ernie) Johnson of Smethport; one son, Charles D. (Deborah) McAndrew of Rochester, N.Y.; two stepsons: Terry (Marjorie) Norton of Eldred and Larry (Sharon) Norton of Smethport; 13 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; one sister: Beverly Ayers of Bradford. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Steve McAndrew, on May 23, 1959, two brothers and two sisters. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m., in the East Smethport United Christian Church. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m., in the church, with the Rev. Allen D. Young, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the McKean Memorial Park, Lafayette. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the East Smethport United Christian Church.
