Matthews, Cora  
Cora Randine Matthews, 81, of 80 Gates Hollow, passed away, Wednesday (Aug. 19, 2015).  Born Feb. 12, 1934 in Hazelton, she was a daughter of the late Rollin A. and Cora R. (Tvedt) Schaeffer. On Sept. 24, 1955, at the Emanuel Lutheran Church in Bradford, she married William H. Matthews, who survives. Mrs. Matthews was a 1952 graduate of Bradford High School. She had been employed at McCory's 5 & 10 Store and, later, at Bell Telephone for over 30 years, working in Bradford and Warren.  She was a member of the Emanuel Lutheran Church, the DORCAS at church, the Women's Literacy Club and the Bell Telephone Pioneers. She enjoyed cooking and appeared twice on the cooking segment of WPSX TV.  Surviving in addition to her husband of 60 years, is one daughter, Randine M. (Alfred) Ruiz of Alhambra, Calif.; one son, John (Anna Marie Chirillo) Matthews of Bradford; one sister, Marian (Richard) Hendee of Fairport, N.Y.; two grandchildren, Andrew Reap and Joey Reap; and several nieces and nephews. At the family's request, there will be no public visitation or funeral services. Palmer, Emory  
Emory Allen Palmer, 78, of Cleveland, Ohio, passed away Thursday, Aug. 20, 2015, surrounded by his loving family. Born Aug. 17, 1937 in Bradford, he was the son of the late Emory W. and Elsie Milliron Palmer. On Oct. 14, 1957 in Bradford, he married Emily Joyce Scott Palmer. Mr. Palmer served in the United States Navy from 1954 to 1958 and in the reserves until 1962. He moved to Cleveland where he had been employed at Apex in Cleveland, and retired after 30 years of service. Mr. Palmer enjoyed walking, riding his bicycle in the park and helping others. He was a kind and caring man. His greatest joy was being with his family and loved to have his grandchildren and great grandchildren near. In addition to his wife of 57 years he is survived by two daughters, Lori (Robert) Mouro of Jacksonville, Fla. and Donna Palmer in Ohio, three sons, Emory A."Jo Jo" (Helen) Palmer Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla., Steven (Karen) Palmer and Daniel Palmer, all of Cleveland; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren and a sister, Lois (Perry) Miller of Bradford. Mr. Palmer was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter, Debra Lynn Palmer and three sisters. There will be no public visitation or services. Paul, Blagoe  
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - CSM Blagoe Paul, 82, of Clarksville, passed away on Monday (Aug. 17, 2015) at Grace Healthcare. Blagoe was born on June 7, 1933, in Mount Jewett, Pa., to the late Peter Paul and Christine Valova Paul. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Knight Paul; two brothers, Costa Paul and Alex Paul; and sister, Sophie Angelo. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Chapel. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be held on Friday from 11 a.m. until the hour of service at the funeral home. Blagoe retired from the U.S. Army after 27 years of service, where he served in the Korean War and Vietnam Conflict. Blagoe is survived by his son, Randell Paul of Clarksville; daughter, Rachel (Todd) Gerber of Nashville; brother, Bort Paul of Arizona; and two sisters, Olga Martin in New York and Melista Patrick in Pennsylvania. Platko, Paul  
Paul Platko, 86, of Bradford, passed away Friday (Aug. 14, 2015) at Olean (N.Y.) General Hospital with his daughter at his side. Born Dec. 4, 1928, in Bradford, he was the son of the late Martin and Cora Shelters Platko. Mr. Platko loved the outdoors and animals. Surviving is his wife, Phyllis Platko; one daughter, Linda L. Platko; one son, Gregory A. Platko; two sisters, Joan Platko and Margaret Conforti; and several nieces and nephews. At the family's request, there will be no public visitation. Burial will be in St. Bernard Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes Inc. Skok, Francis  
ST. MARYS - Francis J. "Frank" Skok, 93, of 134 W. Condot Road, St. Marys, died on Tuesday (Aug. 25, 2015) following a brief illness. He was born on Jan. 20, 1922, in St. Marys, a son of the late Joseph and Cecelia Novosel Skok. On Saturday, June 7, 1947 in Sacred Heart Church, he married Dorothy Baumgratz Skok, who preceded him in death on Jan. 17, 2007. Frank was a lifelong resident of the area and a member of the Sacred Heart Church. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1942-1945 during World War II. He was assigned to the U.S.S. Kaweah, with duty in the Mediterranean Sea, which was sunk by enemy fire. He was then assigned to the U.S.S. Monterey in the Pacific Theater as a Boatswains Mate 2nd Class with a combat station as the captain of a Quad 40 mm gun mount. During this action, the Monterey came under fire by Japanese aircraft, resulting in the sinking of the aircraft carrier. During his service, Frank was a recipient of two Purple Hearts for wounds received in two battle actions. He was honorably discharged on June 29, 1945. He had worked for several years for the Benzinger Township Police, and then retired from Stackpole Carbon Company after more than 45 years of service. He then served as an advisor at Lusko Plating for more than 15 years. He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans, American Legion Post 103, and VFW Post 1047, where he had also served as Past Commander at each and was the service officer for many years of the Legion and the VFW. He was also a member of the K. of C. and the CMF. He was active in local veterans organizations for more than 50 years, having spearheaded the annual Poppy sale until the time of his death. He had participated for more than 58 years in the annual Memorial Day Parade and graveside services and had served as the Grand Marshal several times. Affectionately known as the "Mayor of Lynchville," Frank had been active for 11 years with Little League Knothole baseball as a coach, and was well known for his dependable and dedicated service to local veterans organizations. Most of all, Frank enjoyed the time he spent with his family, especially dining at local restaurants. He was the last member of his immediate family. He is survived by two daughters, Donna Kosick of Ridgway, and Sharon (Ted) Annis of St. Marys; a son, Howard (DeAnna Grunthaner) Skok of Weedville; five grandchildren, Shay (Amanda) Annis, Matt (Natasha) Annis, Amanda Annis, Nicholas Skok and Aleisha Skok; and by 7 great-grandchildren, Mayson, Kalyssa, Tyler, Isaiah, RJ, Noah and Landon. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Todd J. Annis; a son-in-law, Jim Kosick; three brothers, Joseph Skok, John Skok and Thomas Skok; two brothers in infancy, Joseph and Charles; four sisters, Barbara Heiberger, Anna Baumer, Mary Hinkel, and Helen Goetz; and by four sisters in infancy, Magdalene, Mary, Katherine and Eileen. Visitation will be held at the Lynch-Green Funeral Home on Friday from 4 until 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Sacred Heart Church, Center Street, St. Marys, with the Rev. Eric Vogt, O.S.B., officiating. Interment will be in St. Marys Catholic Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen's Burial Detail. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Marys Servicemen's Burial Detail, 168 Center Street, St. Marys, PA 15857 or to Rides for Vets, PO Box 70, Ridgway, PA 15853.
