SMETHPORT - Charles William Simmons, 82, of Cyclone, died Friday (March 8, 2013) at his daughter's residence in Cyclone.
He was born June 8, 1930, in Eldred, a son of Albert William and Mary Freer Simmons. On June 6, 1953, in Allegany, N.Y., he married Rhea Valette Richards, who survives
Mr. Simmons attended Oswayo Valley schools. He was a sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps
, serving during the Korean Conflict
. Mr. Simmons was a chemical operator, employed by the Cargill Co. of Columbus, Miss.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Karen Ann Barksdale in Mississippi, Sherry Lynn Irons of Cyclone and Darlene Marie Weaver of Driftwood; one son, Albert Eugene Simmons in Arkansas; 14 grandchildren, Christina Simms, Cindy, Candise, Charlie, and Gene Simmons, Tammy Nowland, Jamie Barksdale, Randy Barksdale, Robert and William Weaver, Amy Irons, Joshua Irons, Leslie Kio, and Kelly Heffner; 19 great-grandchildren; one sister, Dortha Knapp of California; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by two brothers; and one sister.
At Charles' request, there will be no visitation or funeral services.
