BUFFALO, N.Y. - Elizabeth P. "Betty" Howard, 76, died Sunday (Sept. 8, 2013) in McAuley Residence, Kenmore, after a brief illness.
She was born Elizabeth Pantuso in Bradford, Pa., and attended St. Bernard School and grew up in Lewis Run, Pa. She came to Buffalo in the 1950s to attend Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, where she graduated as a registered nurse in 1958. In 1991, she received a bachelor's degree in nursing from D'Youville College. Mrs. Howard was a registered nurse and owner of a certified diabetes practice. She enjoyed more than 30 years as a registered nurse, retiring from Sisters of Charity Hospital in 2001. Since that time, she managed her own practice as a certified diabetes educator until her illness in May.
She was a longtime member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in North Buffalo, where she was a lector. Mrs. Howard spent summers with her husband, Jonathan, at the beach at Sherkston Shores in Ontario for the past 45 years.
In addition to her husband of 51 years, she is survived by two daughters, Lisette Williams and Mary Beth Coates; two sisters, Alyce Grady of Bradford and Nancy Roberts; and a brother, Joseph Pantuso.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Alex (Barbara) Pantuso of Bradford.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Sept. 14.
