SMETHPORT - Michael James "Jim" Falatic Jr., also known as "Jim the Sign Painter," 69, of Smethport, died Thursday (March 13, 2014) at his residence after a lengthy illness surrounded by his loving family.
He was born Jan. 5, 1945, in Altoona, a son of Michael James and Katherine M. Gresko Falatic Sr. On June 5, 1970, in Virginia, he married Carol J. Grimm, who survives.
Mr. Falatic was a graduate of Warren G. Harding High School of Warren, Ohio, and attended college for art. He served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army.
Jim was a sign painter and artist, running his own business, Jim Falatic Signs, for many years.
Jim was a member of the American Legion; John Berg Post #976 of Crosby and was a former member of the McKean County Sheriff's Department. His passion was painting and he loved fishing, hunting and traveling.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Michelle (Rob) Stuart of Smethport and Teresa Wolfe of Park City, Utah; two granddaughters, Jersee Rae Stuart and Kendall Wolfe; and one sister, Katherine M. Gresko of Warren, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Monday at Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes Inc., 2 Bank St., Smethport, where funeral and committal services will be held at noon with the Rev. Max Simms, pastor of the Hilltop Baptist Church, officiating.
