Marjorie Newton

MOUNT JEWETT - Marjorie B. Newton, 92, formerly of Mount Jewett, passed away Wednesday (May 21, 2014) at Bradford Manor.
Born June 19, 1921, in Summerville, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Olive White Sherman. On May 17, 1941, in Knapp Creek, N.Y., she married Henry Newton, who preceded her in death in 2002.
Mrs. Newton had been employed as a seamstress.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Mount Jewett, the Oilers P39 Camping Club and the Seneca Highlands Trailer Club.
Surviving are two sons, William Newton of Decatur, Ala., and Raymond Newton of Arcade, N.Y.; two daughters, Sandra Norton of Ormond Beach, Fla., and Virginia White of Salisbury, N.C.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Curtis L. Sherman and Edward R. Sherman; and three sisters, F. Laurella Neatherlin, Lauraine McMillen and Mary E. Rupert.
Friends will be received from noon to 12:45 p.m. Tuesday at the Cummings Funeral Home Inc. in Mount Jewett. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. at the United Methodist Church with the Rev. W. Craig Smith, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Bridgeville Cemetery.
