STRASBURG, Va. - Martha Lee "Marty" Everly Monroe, beloved wife and soul-mate to David R. Monroe, went home to be with our Lord and Father in Heaven on Tuesday (Oct. 9, 2012) at her home, surrounded by her family.
Born on March 30, 1952, in Bradford, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Harold and Sabra Everlym.
While attending high school, she was in 4-H with her horse, "Red Bud." She volunteered as a candy striper and worked at Proper's Greenhouse. She graduated from Bradford High School in 1970 and went on to marry and have a family with Harry G. McKinney.
She worked at Zippo Manufacturing Co. in the art department. On June 29, 1984, she married David R. Monroe. She decided to change careers and went to Radiology School in Bradford. In 1986, they moved to Stephens City, where she continued her education through Winchester Medical Center and became a CAT Scan tech. In 2004, she was forced to be put on disability due to cancer.
Marty and Dave were married for 28 years. During those years they took several motorcycle trips including to Sturgis, S.D., Key West, Fla., and Lovell, Wyo. She also enjoyed bluegrass music, sewing, gardening, camping, knitting and cross stitching. She helped start up BDL Prototype and Automation with her husband and Bill and Audrey Snoberger. Marty was an active member of Meadow Mills Church Of The Brethren, Middletown, for many years.
Along with her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Christa (Michael) L. Conard and Sabina (Nathan) Manuel; sons, Dennis (Kim) McKinney, David W. Monroe, Alexis and John Barett; 13 grandchildren, Jonathan, Elizabeth, Kaitlyn, Tala, Jacob, Jonah, Emmalee, Conner, Xander, Layth, Autumn, Cheyenne and Jordan; her Aunt Peggy and Ron Patterson; two sisters, Suzann Feehan and Kathy Crouse; and three brothers, John and Christopher Feehan and Dennis "Unk" Everly.
She is preceded in death by her son-in-law, Anthony "Taz" Wright.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Stover Funeral Home, 177 No. Holliday St., Strasburg. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Meadow Mills Church Of The Brethren, Middletown with the Rev. Fred Mauck, pastor, officiating.
