Mary Smith

Mary Elizabeth "Tootie" Smith, 97, formerly of 1454 South Ave., Lewis Run, passed away Monday (April 7, 2014) at the residence of her daughter. 
Born March 19, 1917, in Bradford, she was a daughter of the late Norman and Madeline Kearney Foster. On Aug. 22, 1940, in Olean, N.Y., she married Galen A. Smith, who passed away May 24, 2010.
Mrs. Smith had worked as a receptionist and secretary for various doctor's offices in the late 30's and 40's. She had been employed by the U.S. Bureau of Census, doing monthly labor surveys. She had also worked at WESB as a hostess for the program entitled "What's Cooking" from 1961-1966. From 1967 to 1971, she was a travel agent for Emery Travel Service and Trailway's Bus Line.
Mrs. Smith attended Evans Memorial United Methodist Church in Lewis Run all of her life. She held a variety of positions to serve her church and the local district of Methodist Churches. Serving in her life's passion of mission outreach, she served on the United Methodist Conference Board of Missions as an ambassador to the Caribbean Islands visiting seven different islands.
Surviving are two daughters, Gail A. (Ron) Thompson and Shelley (Edward) Wright, both of Bradford; five grandchldren, Craig Thompson of Bradford, Betsy (Dr. Ted) Bryant of Marathon, N.Y., Earl (Amanda) Wright of Bradford, Amanda (Steve) Troisi of Bradford and Andrew (Carmen) Wright of Lewis Run; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Erla Frick of Bradford; a brother, Howard Foster of Port Allegany; and several beloved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and one grandson, Bradley J. Thompson, who passed away Oct. 20, 2006.
Family will be receiving friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes Inc., East Main Street, and again from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday in the Evans Memorial United Methodist Church, where services will be held at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Larry Corner, pastor, and the Rev. Keith Hillard, co-officiating. Burial will follow in McKean Memorial Park, Lafayette.
