SAVANNAH, Ga. - Paul Howard Grimes, 90, formerly of Eldred, Pa., died Tuesday (Jan. 1, 2013) following a long illness under hospice care at the residence of his son, Gerald. In his 90 years he met a lot of people, but none as sweet and caring as those from Hospice Savannah.
Paul was born the son of Roy and Eva Brundage Grimes and lived most of his life in Allegany N.Y., Eldred and Bradford, Pa. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II
in the Construction Corps. He had been employed as a tractor-trailer driver for 30 years and retired from the Olean Wholesale Co.
He and his devoted wife, the former Sylvia Miller, owned and raced quarter horses for many years, with some winning foals. They moved to Savannah after Paul had heart surgery in 1998, to be nearer their children. They were married for 60 years but she went on to Heaven before him in 2002. Paul remained active and involved with his family.
He is survived by his children, Cynthia Cusmina, Phillip Grimes and Gerald (Lee) Grimes; grandchildren, Katie Stuck, Tessa (Tim) Speaks, Connie Ball, Andy (Kelly) Grimes, Tanya (Chad) Hayden, Judson Grimes, Kecia (Alan) Swarthout, Shannon (Mikki) Stuckey and Julie Sutley, whom will miss him greatly; 18 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Along with his wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Paula Grimes; and a grandchild, Chris Grimes.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Frame Funeral Home in Eldred, where funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday with the Rev. Kent Hill officiating. After which he will be buried next to his wife, daughter and parents at Grimes Cemetery in Port Allegany, Pa.
In lieu of flowers or cards, memorials can be sent to Hospice Savannah, P.O. Box 13190, Savannah, GA 31416.
