McCONNELLSBURG - Richard Frank Michalski, 53, of Chambersburg, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday (Dec. 15, 2013) after suffering a heart attack.
He was born on Sept. 9, 1960, in Bradford. He was the son of the late Frank and Mildred Perry Michalski.
Rich is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Susan Harrison Michalski; his sisters, Jean Maas of Cambridge Springs and Shirley (Dave) Gotto of Warren; and his stepmother, Virginia Michalski of Erie. He will also be missed by his nieces, Kerryn and Lori Maas and Michelle Gotto; his nephew, Scott Gotto; and their families.
Rich served as a captain in the U.S. Air Force as a weather officer. Meteorology became a lifetime hobby. He also loved gardening and animals, especially his three cats. Prior to his military service, he graduated from Penn State University
in 1982 with a degree in meteorology. Rich spent his entire working career in information technology, first as a contract worker at Letterkenny and then at T.B. Woods Inc., and for the past six years at Lutheran Home Care & Hospice, where he was an information technology support analyst.
A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Dec. 21 in the chapel of the Falling Spring Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Mark Medina officiating. A reception followed in the church's Family Life Center.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lutheran Home Care & Hospice or the Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter.
