Richard P. Young, 82, of 19 Birch St., Bradford, passed away Saturday (Feb. 9, 2013) surrounded by his loving family at Bradford Regional Medical Center.
Born Dec. 8, 1930, in Vandergrift, he was the son of the late Richard P. and Zora Wolford Young. On Sept. 14, 1957, in St. Bernard Church, he married Paula M. Villott Young, who died May 24, 1999. On June 7, 2003, in Allegany State Park, he married Doris Chitester-Bolster Young, who survives him.
Mr. Young was a 1948 graduate of Otto Township High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy
in 1951 and served in Subic Bay, Philippines and Midway Island. His honorable discharge was in 1955. After the service, he returned to Bradford and worked at Oliver and Loveland Oil Co., the Bradford Airport as a clerk, then at Bovaird and Seyfang Co., which later became Dresser Clark, from where he retired in 1986 as a cost accountant. He later worked for 10 years as an accountant for CEMP.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Duke Center Masonic Lodge #555 F&AM, the McKean County Rifle Club, and the YMCA. Mr. Young had a great love for being outdoors, and enjoyed hunting, fly fishing, leather tooling, bowling, and playing poker. He, along with his brother-in-law, Allan Jones, started the Zoe Street Boat Works and spent many long hours restoring wooden boats.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, is one daughter, Tracy A. (Brian) Healy of Atlanta, Ga.; one son, Michael J. (Barbara) Young of Pittsburgh; four grandchildren, Dylan Young, Tyler Young, Zachary Young and Brock Healy; three stepchildren, Dana (Al) Madison of Pittsburgh, Jill (Rick) Cottillion of Bradford, and Douglas (Anjie) Bolster of Chicago, Ill.; six stepgrandchildren, Ben Madison, Nick Madison, Ryan Cottillion, Ethan Bolster, Olivia Bolster and Isaac Bolster; two sisters, Bea (Ron) Farrell of South Dayton, N.Y., and Helen Vanderfinn of Ione, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.
Family will be receiving friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes Inc., East Main Street, and again in the First United Methodist Church on Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m., at which time funeral and committal services will be held with the Rev. Tom Verner, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in St. Bernard Cemetery.
