KANE - Thomas J. Collin, 79, formerly of Kane, passed away at Freedom Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, The Villages, Fla., on Dec. 19, 2012, after a brief illness.
Born Feb. 6, 1933, in Kane, he was a son of Stanley and Mary Hargett Collin.
Tom was a graduate of Kane High School, Class of 1953. He served in the U.S. Army.
For 29 years he was a professional truck driver. He later retired from Falconer Glass Industries in 1992 which was also the year he and his wife, Jan, retired to The Villages.
He belonged to St. Timothy Catholic Church, the Kane Country Club and the Penn State Club.
Tom enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid deer hunter and mentor to his nephews - always getting his prey with a bow and arrow or rifle. He had fun snowmobiling in his early family days and also enjoyed golfing, watching college and pro football and spending times with his family. He kept a pristine looking yard and his vehicles were always looking "sharp."
Surviving, are his wife of 26 years, Janice Collin; three daughters, Kelli Detrick of West Leechburg, Kerri (Frank) Spangler of Kane and Amy (Alan) Dexter of Bradford; two stepchildren, Judy (Gary) Rutter of Latrobe and Larry (Linda) Simons of New Castle; grandchildren, Brandon (Ramona) Nelson in Texas, Tyler Nelson of Pittsburgh, Brittany Collin of Kane, Tomi, Brady and Regan Dolan and Andrew Dexter, all of Bradford, and Lindsey Simons of New Castle; three great-grandchildren, Gavin and Carter Nelson in Texas and Keigan Smith of Kane; a sister, Mary Ann (George) Bilicic of St. Marys; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Alyssa Nelson, in infancy; a brother, Stanley Collin; and a sister, Doris Alexis.
Friends and family may attend a memorial service at 10 a.m. on Jan. 19 at the Cummings Funeral Home Inc. in Kane, with the Rev. Philip Pinczewski, pastor of St. Callistus Catholic Church, officiating. Burial will be at Bridgeview Cemetery.
