EMPORIUM - George L. Leavitt, 85, of 370 Markert Road, Beechwood, died surrounded by his loving family at Penn Highlands Elk, St. Marys, on Thursday (May 1, 2014) morning.
He was born Feb. 24, 1929, in Truman, a son of the late Charles and Cecil "Dollie" Dill Leavitt.
On July 4, 1951, in Beechwood, George married the late Joan Smith Leavitt, his wife of 55 years. After she passed in 2006, he married Larue Jeannine Clark Leavitt of Austin in 2009. George graduated from the former Emporium High School. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. George retired from Sylvania, where he worked for over 35 years. He was also employed at Pennsylvania Pressed Metals for several years. He was a member of the George E. Wagner Lodge #639, F&AM St. Marys.
Surviving, in addition to Larue Jeannine Clark Leavitt of Austin, are a daughter, Kathy (John) Dolan of Rich Valley; two sons, Robert (Marina) Leavitt of Crestwood, Ky., and Thomas Leavitt of Smethport; six grandchildren, Vincent (Cassie) Lovejoy, James (Morgan) and Ryan (Tina) Leavitt, Kelley (John) Davis Jake (Nadia) Leavitt and Amanda (Chad) Burke; one great-grandson, Barrett Leavitt; sister, Pauline Kelley of Williamsport; two sisters-in-law, Delores Leavitt of Truman and Nancy Summerson of Williamsport; two brothers-in-law, James (Norma) Smith in New Jersey and James (Carol) Reed of Emporium.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Cecil "Dollie" Dill Leavitt; his first wife, Joan Smith Leavitt; a brother, Charles Leavitt; and a sister, Betty Smith.
Funeral Service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Barnett Funeral Home, 207 E. Fourth St., Emporium with the Rev. Ronald Kelly, Calvary Church of the Nazarene, Williamsport, officiating.
A military service will be accorded by the Cameron County Memorial Detail. Visitation with a tribute video will be at the Barnett Funeral Home on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11:30 a.m.
Burial will be in the Smith Family Cemetery, Beechwood.
