John N. Whitlow, 73, of 63 Main St., Lewis Run, passed away Monday (May 13, 2013) at Bradford Regional Medical Center.

Born June 8, 1939, in Leasburg, N.C., he was a son of John E. and Malvena Carter Whitlow. On March 18, 1972, at the Navel Base in Waukegan, Ill., he married Christie Montecalvo Whitlow, who survives.
Mr. Whitlow attended Helena High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in December of 1960 and served four tours in Vietnam. He was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal with three Bronze Stars and one Silver Star, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross, Republic of Vietnam Civil Action Honor Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Ribbon with Device. He was honorably discharged Aug. 13, 1981, as a Chief Warrent Officer.
In addition to his wife of 41 years, he is survived by two children, a daughter, Jean M. (Sam Tsepelis III) Whitlow of Custer City and a son, John N. (Krista) Whitlow of Lewis Run; five grandchildren, Morgan Whitlow, Mallory Whitlow, Jake Whitlow, Matthew J. Tsepelis and Holly Tsepelis; three sisters, Alene Walker, Margaret Dean and Carol Stone; seven brothers, Kelley Whitlow, Harold Whitlow, Reginald Whitlow, Maurice Whitlow, Ted Whitlow, Barry Whitlow and Tim Whitlow; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Judith Ann Winstead and Sheila Kaye Whitlow.
Family will be receiving friends in the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes Inc., 33 South Ave., on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and again on Friday from 10 to 11 a.m., at which time funeral and committal services will be held with the Rev. Stephen Collins, pastor of Our Mother of Perpetual Help Church, officiating.
