OIL CITY - Richard Raymond Brandon Sr., 88, of 7211 US 322, Cranberry, died at 12:30 a.m. Thursday (July 17, 2014) at his home.

Born Dec. 14, 1925, in the home where he died, he was a son of the late Alvy Brandon and Anna Cassatt Brandon Rembold. He was also preceded in death by a brother Eugene Brandon.
Dick graduated from Cranberry High School in 1943 and in 1952 from Penn State University with a degree in Animal Husbandry, and was a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Marine Corps from March 14, 1944 to November 23, 1945. He was a rifle marksman aboard the USS North Carolina with campaign ribbons and engagement stars from Leyte, Luzon, Iwo Jima, Okinawa, Philippines and Tokyo Bay Surrender Force. On June 15, 2013, he went on the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. to visit all memorials, especially the World War II Memorial.
Dick had three careers, for 15 years as a field serviceman with Eastern State Farm Cooperative/Agway in Oil City, Annville, Norristown, Somerset and Slippery Rock, he raised starter pullets for 15 years on the family farm in Cranberry, and for 15 years delivered parcels for UPS from the Seneca depot.
He was a member of the Cranberry United Methodist Church since childhood, Friendship Sunday School Class, and a member and chair of Board of Trustees.
Dick also belonged to the Venango County Penn State Extension Board, was a longtime supporter of all aspects of the Venango County 4-H program, Cranberry Lions Club, delivered Meals on Wheels, volunteered at the Cranberry Area Clothing Closet, and was an avid supporter of the sports program at the Cranberry High School.
On June 30, 1956 he married the former Marilyn Craig at the Seneca United Methodist Church. They just celebrated their 58th anniversary.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Catherine Henry (William) of Birmingham, Ala., Jennifer Figgie (Timothy) of Bellingham, Wash., Melinda Anderson of Columbus, Ohio, and Richard R. Brandon Jr. (Brenda) of Bradford; and 10 grandchildren, Brian Henry of Delaware, Ohio, Kelly Clancy (Patrick) of Easthampton, Mass., Michael Henry of Birmingham, Ala., Linden Figgie of Grand Marais, Minn., Laura Figgie of Seattle, Wash., Beth and Brienne Figgie of Bellingham, Wash., Sarah and Rachel Anderson of Columbus, Ohio, and Lindsey Brandon of Bradford.
A memorial service will be held by the family at a later date after his daughter and granddaughter return from a short-term mission trip to Haiti.
