William Thomas Engel Jr., 68, of 6670 SW 64th Ave., Ocala, Fla., formerly of Bradford, passed away Friday (Jan. 17, 2014) surrounded by his loving family at the Legacy House Hospice in Ocala.

Born March 22, 1945, in Bradford, he was the son of Lillian Ferko Engel of Bradford and the late William T. Engel Sr. On Aug. 18, 1978, in Walterboro, S.C., he married Jeannie Weissenstein Engel, who died on Oct. 1, 2005.
Mr. Engel was a 1963 graduate of Bradford High School, graduated St. Francis College in 1967 and graduated form Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1971. He received his Ph.D. in chemistry from American University in Washington, D.C. in 1981.
He was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ocala and attained the rank of Grand Knight in the Knights of Columbus.
Dr. Engel was employed as director of the TREEO Center at the University of Florida in 1994, until he retired in 2010. He previously worked at Central Carolina Technical College, as the director for the Environmental Training Program.
Surviving, in addition to his mother, is one daughter, Mary Kathleen (Brian) Marsh of Ocala; one son, William T. Engel III of Cooperstown, N.D.; and four grandchildren, William Thomas Engel IV, Hunter Nolan Engel, Mia Lynne Engel and Gavin Russell Marsh.
He was preceded in death by his father; and one brother, John Michael Engel.
Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 22 in St. Bernard Roman Catholic Church with the Rev. Raymond Gramata, pastor, as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bernard Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes Inc.
