Albert F. DelMonego, 89, of Bradford, passed away on Sunday (June 28, 2015) at the Bradford Manor.
He was born on April 7, 1926 in Bradford, a son of the late Joseph and Louise Machietta DelMonego.
He attended Lewis Run and Bradford area schools.
On Sept. 17, 1955 in the St. Bernard Catholic Church, he married Shirley Ann Cavallero, who survives.
He served in World War II in the Pacific Theatre with the U.S. Army 77th Infantry Division. He was wounded in Okinawa and received two Purple Hearts, Infantry Badge, Rifleman & Sharpshooter Badge, the Bronze Star Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
He was a member of the St. Bernard Catholic Church, the American Legion Post 108, AARP, St. Francis 50+ and the Lt. John C. Roche Post 212 VFW, and he was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council 403. He was a life member of the La Stella Lodge, Disabled American Veterans and the Moose Lodge.
He was employed by Northeastern Container Corp. & Owens Illinois, retiring in 1984 as a supervisor with 41 years of service.
In addition to his wife of 59 years, Shirley DelMonego of Bradford, he is also survived by one son, Brian (Melissa) DelMonego of Chester Springs; two sisters, Victoria Taylor of Mount Alton and Lea Miller of Lewis Run; one grandson, Adam DelMonego of Chester Springs; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Deno, Mario and John DelMonego; and one sister, Joanne DelMonego.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Mascho Funeral Home Inc. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in the St. Bernard Catholic Church with the Rev. Raymond Gramata as celebrant. A Christian wake service will be held at 5:45 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
Members of the LaStella Lodge will call as a group at 7 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
Entombment and military honors will be in St. Bernard Cemetery.
Memorial contributions in his memory can be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of the Mascho Funeral Home Inc.
