Alice M. Ekdahl, 95, of 11 Oakwood Ave., formerly of Big Shanty, Lewis Run, went to be with the Lord on Friday (June 21, 2013) at The Pavilion at BRMC with her son and daughter-in-law at her side.
Born Aug. 8, 1917, in Perry N.Y., she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Elizabeth Bessie Williams Closser. On Sept. 14, 1940, in Bradford, she married Donald F. Ekdahl, who died on Sept. 2, 2003.
Mrs. Ekdahl was a self-employed housekeeper and worked for many local families.
She was a very active member of the Evans Memorial United Methodist Church, teaching Sunday School for 40 years.
Surviving is her son, Randy (Betsy) W. Ekdahl of Bradford; three granddaughters, Danielle Martin, Krystal Krepp and Casandra Cross; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Sally Twichel of Jefferson City, Mo.; a sister-in-law, Betty Swineford of Bradford; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Louise Benninger and Helen Britton; and one brother, Merle Closser.
Family will be receiving friends from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday in the Evans Memorial United Methodist Church, followed by funeral and committal services at noon with the Rev. Edward Hillard, retired pastor, officiating. Burial will be in McKean Memorial Park, Lafayette.
