ELDRED - Ann L. Welch, 72, of Bennett Street, passed away Tuesday (Jan. 7, 2014) at home following a lengthy illness.

Born March 15, 1941, in Olean, N.Y., she was a daughter of Harley and Ina Stiles Ford. On Sept. 24, 1960, in St. Matthews Episcopal Church in Eldred, she married Michael L. Welch, who survives.
Ann attended Eldred schools and later graduated from Bradford LPN School. She had resided on Bennett Street since 1966.
Mrs. Welch served with the Women's Army Corps in Texas. She was employed as a nurse at Stone's Manor in Smethport and later at St. Francis Hospital in Olean for many years until it closed. She was then employed at Sena-Kean Manor in Smethport until her retirement in 1998. She had worked as a private duty nurse in the area and also at the infirmary at St. Bonaventure University.
Ann was a past member of St. Matthews Church in Eldred. She enjoyed fishing and pistol shooting, as well as knitting, crocheting, reading and playing cards. She also enjoyed going for a ride and traveling with her family.
Surviving are a son, John Henry (Nicole) Welch of Fredericksburg, Va.; three daughters, Denise (Harold) App of Coryville, Joni (Marshall Shunk) Welch of Smethport and Jennifer Kerr of Bradford; 11 grandchildren, Joshua and Amber App, Shawn and Candice App, and Christopher and Amanda App, Logan Welch and Dylan Welch, Danny and Kayla Shunk, Kevin Shunk and Adam Shunk, Tod Chaffee, Lucas Kerr and Colton Kerr; seven great-grandchildren, Keith and Hunter App, Caleb, Abigail and Emma App, Vanek App and Landon Shunk; as well as one sister, Shirley Crone of Eldred.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Harvey Ford; and two sisters, Thelma Welch and Margery Harvey.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Frame Funeral Home in Eldred, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday with Pastor Steven Heath officiating. Burial will follow in Lamphier Cemetery, Eldred.
