ELDRED - Anna E. "Annie" Bell, 92, of Route 446, passed away on Sunday (Oct. 26, 2014) at Cole Memorial Hospital, Coudersport, following a brief illness.
Born Aug. 25, 1922, in Port Allegany, she was the daughter of William Clare and Gladys Laurah Davies Burr Sr. On Jan. 31, 1943, in the Methodist Church in Portville, N.Y., she married Charles Bell, who passed away on Sept. 5, 2008.
Annie was a 1940 graduate of Eldred High School and later attended nursing school in Rochester, N.Y., and the Bryant and Stratton School in Buffalo, N.Y.
During World War II, she was employed at the Curtiss-Wright Aircraft Co. in Buffalo as a secretary. For many years she was employed at their family's construction company, Bell and Bell, as the bookkeeper. Along with her husband, they owned and operated the Bell Ringer Antique shop in Eldred until it closed.
Annie was a 70-year member of the Keystone Chapter No. 2, O.E.S. of Duke Center and its White Shrine. She was a past den mother for Cub Scout Den 12 of Eldred, and along with her husband she was a member of the Family Motor Coach Association and had attended the Methodist Church. Annie and her husband loved traveling in their motor home, where they established new and lasting relationships in their travels and later when they spent winters in Polk City, Fla. She also enjoyed music, especially playing the piano, knitting and cross stitching, and more recently, reading.
Surviving are three sons, Gregory (Jane) Bell of Eldred, Griffith (Nancy) Bell of Littleton, Colo., and Jeffrey (Jennifer Lathrop) Bell of Eldred; one daughter, Sue (H. Edward) McFadden of Littleton; 11 grandchildren, Troy McFadden and Cheryl Taylor, Stephen Bell, Erin Waugaman, Nathan Bell, Sarah Bell and Charles Andrew Bell, Jeremiah Bell and Shannon Hawkins, Sadie Bell and Jacob Bell; and eight great-grandchildren.
Annie was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Diane Bell in 1947; and a brother, William Clare "Bud" Burr Jr.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Frame Funeral Home, Eldred. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Sawyer Evangelical Church, Sawyer, with the Rev. Brad Preston officiating. Burial will follow in McKean Memorial Park, Lafayette. Keystone Chapter No. 2 O.E.S. of Duke Center will conduct a memorial service at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Keystone Chapter No. 2 O.E.S.; or the Shriners Hospital of Erie.
