Arlene L. Case, 86, of 1467 South Ave., Lewis Run, passed away Saturday (July 28, 2012) at The Pavilion at BRMC, where she had been a resident for the past five years.
Born in Red Rock on Aug. 23, 1925, she was a daughter of the late Myrl E. and Grace L. Belser Bailey. On Aug. 7, 1948, in the Derrick City United Methodist Church by the Rev. David Klinger, she married Douglas L. Case, who survives.
She attended the Derrick City Elementary School, School Street Junior High School and was a 1943 graduate of Bradford High School. She entered the Bradford Hospital School of Nursing in 1943 and graduated as a registered nurse in 1946.
She worked as a registered nurse and head nurse at the women's side of the Bradford Hospital. From 1951 to 1969, she was a nurse at the Lewis Run school and did part-time work as a private duty nurse. In 1969, she went to work as the office nurse for Dr. Medden, Dr. Watkins and Dr. Konwinski at Surgical Associates. She later worked for Dr. Schecter, Dr. Graves and prior to her retirement in 1991 she worked for Dr. Graham.
She was an active member of the Evans Memorial United Methodist Church in Lewis Run and held many offices as well as serving as a Sunday School teacher. She was a member of the Bradford Christian Women's Club and volunteer at the American Cancer Society. She was a member of the Army Cadet Corp.
Surviving, in addition to her husband Doug of almost 64 years, is one daughter-in-law, Dr. Patrice Case of Naples, Fla.; two granddaughters, Elizabeth Ann Case of Chicago Ill., and Emily Christine Case of New York City, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Peggy Jo Case, who died Dec. 22, 1969; one son, Dr. Gary D. Case, who died Dec. 7, 2011; and three brothers, Myrl E. Bailey Jr. Thomas V. Bailey and Eugene G. Bailey.
Friends are invited to call at the Evans Memorial United Methodist Church on Wednesday from 10 a.m. to noon, at which time funeral and committal services will be held with the Rev. Larry Corner officiating. Burial will be in McKean Memorial Park, Lafayette.
