JOHNSONBURG - Bernard T. "Bernie" Gapinski, 86, of 407 High St., Johnsonburg, died on Saturday morning (Dec. 13, 2014) at Elk Having Nursing Home in St. Marys following a brief illness.
On Sept. 16, 1961, in Holy Cross Church, Brandy Camp, he married Elizabeth "Betty" Zambanini; she survives
Mr. Gapinski was a Korean era veteran of the U.S. Army, serving as a corporal with Battery C 14th AAA Gun Battalion out of Fort Myer, Va.
In addition to his wife at home, he is survived by two daughters, Cheryl (Carl) Moore of St. Marys and Donna Gapinski of Johnsonburg; two brothers, Chester Gapinski of Johnsonburg and Robert "Buck" Gapinski of Cincinnati, Ohio; two sisters, Vera (Edward) Zambanini of Kersey and Agnes Tassone of Johnsonburg; many nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Anthony F. Ferragine Funeral Home, 401 Chestnut St., Johnsonburg. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Holy Rosary Church, Johnsonburg, with the Rev. David J. Wilson, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery, Johnsonburg. Military honors will be accorded by the Johnsonburg-Wilcox Servicemen's Detail. Detail members are asked to assemble at the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday.
