COUDERSPORT - Betty Jane Marsh Tice Northrop, 90, of Coudersport, died Thursday (March 29, 2012) at Charles Cole Memorial Hospital in Coudersport.
Born on June 13, 1921, in Renovo, she was the daughter of Elizabeth Mae Marsh. In 1922 she was adopted by her grandparents, Delbert and Fannie Mae McClinsey Tice. On April 13, 1944, in Fort Myers, Fla., she married Benjamin Llewellyn Northrop Jr., who died on Dec. 24, 1995.
Mrs. Northrop was a 1940 graduate of Galeton High School. She was formerly employed with the A-1 Stop, Widmann's Discount Store in Coudersport and with GTE Sylvania in Galeton and Emporium. She had also been employed for seven years at the Crittenden Hotel in Coudersport. She was a volunteer at the Coudersport Senior Center and at Charles Cole Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Northrop enjoyed people. She loved her Maine-coon cat, Mr. Babe. She loved to go shopping, to read, and enjoyed holidays and activities with her family.
Surviving are five children, Benjamin L. (Noreen) Northrop III of Odessa, Texas, Cora (Donald) Tarabori, Sueann (Gary) Walaski, Betty Jean (Dave) Mottern and Michael (Betty Jean) Northrop, all of Coudersport; 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one granddaughter, Tammy Tarabori.
Friends are invited to attend a memorial service to be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Fickinger Funeral Home, a Life Celebration Home, of Coudersport. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in West Hill Cemetery in Galeton.
