Betty E. Whitney, 95, a beloved mother, grandmother and friend to many, of 2 South Ave., Bradford, passed away Tuesday (Oct. 1, 2013) at Bradford Regional Medical Center.

Born April 10, 1918, in Bradford, she was a daughter of Oscar and Hazel M. Freeman Benton. On Jan. 30, 1937, in Olean, N.Y., she married Ray W. Whitney, who died on Sept. 15, 1972.
Mrs. Whitney was a 1936 graduate of Bradford High School.
She catered dinners for local area families and clubs. She also worked in the cafeteria at School Street Junior High School.
She was a member of the Hill Memorial United Methodist Church.
Surviving are one daughter, Beverly McKnight of Wellsboro; two sons, Robert (Maryann) Whitney of Jamestown, N.Y., and Timothy (Barbara) Whitney of Olean, N.Y.; 11 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one son, Thomas Whitney; two brothers, Oscar and Robert Benton; and one sister, Hazel Pascarella.
Family will receive friends on Saturday at the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes Inc., South Avenue, from 9 to 11 a.m., at which time funeral and committal services will be held with the Rev. Thomas Verner, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Five Mile Cemetery in Allegany, N.Y.
