Burton E. Johnson, 89, of Lakeview Manor in Smethport, formerly of Mount Jewett, died Sunday evening (Sept. 9, 2018) at UPMC Cole in Coudersport.
Born Jan. 4, 1929, in Kane, he was the son of Carl A. and L. Hollis Lucore Johnson.
After his service in the U.S. Army during World War II, Mr. Johnson worked for National Fuel Gas for many years, and was a deputy for the Fish Commission for 11 years.
Burton was a member of the Mount Jewett United Methodist Church, a life member of the IOOF in Mount Jewett and Smethport as well as the American Legion in Mount Jewett, and, for several years, served on and was past president of the Mount Jewett Council.
Surviving are two daughters, Terri (Andy) Chapman of Smethport and Helene (Jonathan) DuShaw of Warren; a son, Charles (Jane) Johnson of Gainesville, Va.; a sister, Leatha McQueen of Kane; his grandchildren, Nicholas and Alan Chapman and Michael and Mitchell Dodge; and several nieces and nephews. His longtime companion, Barb Metz of Allegany, N.Y., also survives.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Carl and Clarence Johnson.
Friends may call Saturday at the Ronald McDonald II Funeral Home Inc. in Kane from noon until 1 p.m., at which time a service will be held there with the Rev. Jon Swart, retired Methodist minister, officiating. Interment will follow privately in Gibbs Hill Cemetery, Ludlow.
